Towards a Roadmap for Future Satellite Gravity Missions
September 30 - October 2, 2009, Graz, Austria

Breakout Session B6 (Thursday, October 1, 2009): Roadmap and Declaration.
Co-chairs: Hans-Peter Plag, Roland Pail.
Rapporteur: nn.
Session description:

This session focuses on the preparation of the roadmap for future satellite gravity missions, the declaration, and the workshop report. Concerning the set-up of the roadmap, specifying the major milestones for the implementation of future gravity field missions on a short-term, medium-term, and long-term basis. Key issues are the integration of a matrix of generalized mission concepts addressing mission requirements (derived from user requirements) and expected performance, level of technological maturity and expected qualification time, complementarity with other data sources, and costs. Further, their potential to overcome the present limitations concerning temporal and spatial resolution and aliasing problems should be addressed. Special emphasis should be given to the fact that the proposed roadmap is in agreement with the boundary conditions of the programmes of the space agencies. Further, the link to GEO’s needs and the different user groups shall be addressed.

Based on this roadmap document, and further considering the resolutions of the 2007 future gravity workshop, the declarations shall be derived. Finally, a rough draft of the workshop report, containing the results of the plenary presentations and the 5 thematic breakout sessions, shall be outlined and compiled. For these purposes, a close link to the results of the other 5 breakout sessions B1 to B5 is required.
